I agree with Mnemonic. You can't say "well i ran a .1 second quater mile" and conclude that "yes, the probinator chip is what makes the difference". I mean for heaven sake, you have different cars, one of you has radials, the other drag radials, and you probably have different exhaust systems, different driving styles.
The truth of the matter is, if you want to test the ecu for the best results, do this.
1) Hec and Rudy, test each car on a dyno
2) Hec and rudy switch ecu's. Hec runs KL31, rudy runs probinator. Now do another dyno run.
3) Take it to a track. Run a time with your ecu's.
4) Switch ECU's, Run again.
5) Switch drivers and ecu's
6) Switch ECU's again
From there you should have 6 sets of date for each ECU that you can compair side by side.
Slammed6 is on the right track with simply running a dyno with each ecu in the same car. Good to see that the probinator chip came out with 10 WHP. Very impressive gain.

It too hard to say "This ECU made me .1-.2 sec faster in the quarter" Cause do this...and u will see why. Run your car in the 1/4, then don't change anything, come back line up and run again....and see what the chances of your time being exactly the same....very unlikely. LOL
But the dyno will tell the true story, i did it on the same day back to back runs...so it did make more HP.

i think all you guys are being too hard on our el paso buddies. i dont think anyone's said that ecu's are the best way to get power out of a motor or are even trying to make the claim that the probinator is better.
it's just that before the probinator chip, short of a stand alone, the most compatible ecu we could get for the ZE was the kl31/36, which wasn't even designed for the k8 vaf, runs rich, and costs 250 bucks.
we now have an alternative that's 1/4 of the price, and these guys just did a few runs to see if it's as good, which i was curious to know myself. if it truly measures up to the kl31, i'd prefer it just get my CEL light back, instead of swapping out my ecu every time i wanna pull codes.
i agree with slammed, a dyno's the way to definitively test it out, but dyno runs aint free or cheap, and up until now i haven't heard of anyone else besides him saying good things about the chip. so it's good to have other feedback from more people that have actually used the chip in their rides, and to hear that it runs decent.

Im basing myselfs of my runs. i ahd several runs. probinator i was getting constant 15.3 kl31 and vaf 15.4 basically. I ak not comparing it to rudys car.
He was running 85 octane . I was 91.

Ive had the Probinator ECU in my car for a long time and have said plenty of times that it runs perfect. No low rpm lag after installing it.

hmm niw that you mention it, the kl31 ecu lagged in a bit at low rpm but it would kick hard in high rpms. probinator chip is even trough the power band. hmm ill have to make 2 dyno runs with both set ups.

glad to see everything worked out.
Hey at least it wasnt like a half second or a full second off. I always said it was about the sme as the kl31/36 ecu
The main benifit would be price. the kl31/36 ecu is like 200+ where the chip is like 45.
anyone have questions my email is

get your facts straight man. the k8 vaf is the sam as the kl31/kl36 JE50.
and you can check codes with the ze ecu's its been covered here many times

i misspoke. i meant to say that the kl31 wasnt even designed to run in our curve neck ZE's. and i didn't say it was impossible to pull codes off a ZE ECU, i said i wanted my CEL back. whats with the attitude

right dude.... i totally agree.... we just told you guys what we found out.... now there is another problem.... i just poped my hood just because and noticed canister #1 was unplugged.... so totally it would have to come down to a dyno ...also me and hector were running constant times that day....but the track here is pretty, well lets just say its was half a*sed so i cant even guarantee those times are accurate, i have hit 14.5 on that track before, we didnt set tps sensors we didnt reset ecu's it was just bolting on and chaning vafs to see what happened.... thanks ninjajim.... and vanished for all your help brotherins.... we are gonna have to... but not untill i settle a header leak i have due to low quality OBX header gaskets...
