well the sohc s/c is getting closer, as soon as i ge the megasquirt finished (so close) then its time to make my custom intake manifold. you wont believe what this is gonna look like.

what do you guys think a eaton m62 will push on a sohc? 20psi? lmfao, gonna need to gear this thing down concidering it made 5psi on a 4.3L v6.... im less then 1/2 the displacement

Your intercooling it right? The Eaton super chargers get pretty hot when running big boost, which varies depending on the model. Check out Eaton's website and look at the charts they have on them. From this chart you'll see what rpm the super charger makes what boost at, how many cfm of air it will flow at that rpm, and how hot the outlet compressed charge will be at that rpm. This is key data you'll need to size your pulleys. There is a drive ratio you'll need to calculate based off your engine's set redline and the supercharges peak rpm your looking to run to hit the cfm of air flow and boost you need. If the supercharge needs to spin at 16,000rpms and your engine is set at 8,000rpm limit then you'll need to drive the SC at a 2:1 ratio. The super charger needs to make two revolutions for your crank pullies every revolution. Displacement isn't what you have to look at here as it doesn't effect performance no where near that of sizing a turbo to spool based on displacement. It takes "x" cfm or lbs/min of air flow to make "x" HP. Typically 10:1 is used as a rule of thumb when calculating HP based of lbs/min of air flow. Means every 1lbs/min of air flow typically makes 10HP. This is how you size something to meet your HP goal. The next thing you have to do is get the engine to ingest that air. Boost pressure comes into play quite a bit here. The smaller the ports and cams, the smaller the amount of air it can flow at "x" pressure. By rasing the pressure (ie...boost) you can increase the amount of air that can pass through a given port size. As pressure "x" increases the port flow increases even though the port size isn't larger. Thermodynamics come into play here as well. The hotter the intake charge is, the more area a given measurement of gas will occupy due to thermal expansion. This effects the airs density and the colder the air, the more you can stuff into a given port size with out even increasing pressure "x". This is why Intercoolers make a HUGE power gain in turbocharged cars as the outlet temps are really high. For every 10*F you reduce the air temperature you gain about 1HP. The next key to making the power is FUEL. FUEL is what makes power...especially torque. Pump gas tuning forced induction motors like around 12.0-12.4 AFR at peak torque and about 12.4-13.1 AFR at peak HP. Yes I didn't get those backwards either. EGT's are extremely important to watch as you can get advanced warning BEFORE your engine melts down. Running EGT's above 1600*F in a piston engine is asking for a short engine life and possible melt down depending on the materials the engine components are manufactured out of. Last but not least your exhuast is crutial as to how the car will perform. SC powered cars are probably a little more tolerant of exhaust sizing than other cars. You need a good scavaging smooth flowing header with the tightest possible merge. From the merge back the exhaust size needs to gradually get larger. Hot exhaust flows fast, but... it will lose little speed when flowing to a denser mass of air. This is why excessive back pressure kills power. The only good kind of backpressure is when it is used with the sound wave to pull the next exhaust pulse. Besure you don't skimp on the headers using cheap materials or it will fall apart quickly. Low Carbon Stainless, Titanium, or better yet Inconnel are the best materials for the header job. Inconnel insulates very well as it doesn't absorb or radiate heat look the others. Ceramic coating them is also well worth the money. Not only does it speed up the exhaust gasses from keeping the hotter but it also keeps the engine bay cooler and extends the header life like you wouldn't believe! Don't send the header to a cheap shop or use "Ceramic Paint" as it will flake off. Use a company like Swaintech, Jet Hot, or Calico Coatings.

Glad to see a SC powered SOHC...it'll be a torque FREAK with the M62 :freak: Especially if turning 12+psi Intercooled! The faster you drive it the faster boost will come on...SC's are NOTHING like turbo's!!!

P.S.

Your tranny and clutch are DEFINATELY not going to take much from it. I'd highly recommend upgrading to a Pro-LX drive line.

The M62 is supportable of 300+HP air flow when spinning at its limits. :wink:
