Yeah, TSW's have a pretty bad reputation for their "softness". I remember my first set of wheels were (concept's) TSW's and I bent all 4 wheels pretty easily. I think they have rightfully earned the nickname - Too Soft'a Wheel...

The lightest 15x6.5 wheels I've found are the Desmond regamaster EVO's AKA spoon sw388's they weigh 8.6lbs each.

Does anyone know of a tire weight list? I've searched but to no avail.

Tirerack usually has the weight of the tire if you look up the specs on it. I don't know of a published list though

sort by size, this is a VERY nice comprehensive list of rims, I find it very helpful. Also notes if it's forged or cast or whatnot.

I ended up with a set of Konig Minuz.

15x6.5 and weigh only 10.5lbs. I put a Dunlop SP8000 Sport ZRated tire on there in 225/50/15 and the tires weighs 21lbs. Makes for a pretty light rim/tire combo.

they are talking about rotas in this thread but all cast wheels are made the same way. im pretty sure most oem aluminum wheels are cast as well.

look mang, it's not of matter of sucking or not sucking....
it's your personal level of accpetnace for quality.

the differnace between a forged wheel and a cast whel is simple:
~ in forging the aluminum molocules are smaller and closer together, making a stonger lighter piece of metal (by stonger I mean crack resitance, becuase technically the metal is softer)

...Image
micro 100x photo of aluminum forging

~ in casting since there is no pressing its just poured in, the molocules stay larger and farther apart, thus making for heavier more prone to crack metal.

micro 100x photo of aluminum casting

So it's really a factor of weather or not Rotas are up to your standards

here are a few more wheels tho not as light, they are competition strength wheels. you can find the 15x7 and 16x7 sizes on websites that sell miata performance parts for just over 100 each. if u buy from the miata websites, these wheels are hubcentric and come in 15x7 +30 that allow you to run wider tires without rubbing the struts as higher offset wheels.

team dynamics pro race 2
7.0 x 15 et30 is an SCCA approved wheel for Mazda Miata Challenge
The Team Dynamics Pro Race Two is a popular Spec Miata Racing choice that meets the rule of being over 13 pounds each. Also popular for Miata street and Miata autocrossers for their strength and relative light weight and low cost. The 4x100 bolt pattern fits Miata, and various Hondas and Toyotas. The Team Dynamics Pro Race Two 15x7s are approximately 14 pounds depending on offset. The 30mm offset is milled hubcentric to 54mm for the Miata, other offsets take a hubcentric ring (standard 73/54 ring for Miata and Toyota, 73/56 for Honda). No center caps included with this wheel so order them separate if you want them.

7.0 x 15 15 - 40 From 6.4 kg at highest offset
7.0 x 16 15 - 45 From 7.0 kg at highest offset
pro comp 1
Designed to be the lightest heat-treated cast alloy 7.0 x 15 wheel on the market today, this wheel is some 25% lighter than a comparative conventional cast alloy road wheel. This is achieved through developments in Computer Aided Design and Finite Element Analysis, complete with full impact and fatigue testing. All conducted in house.
Wheels are now in use by Peugeot, for their one make series, and many other teams are expressing interest.
Weight

7.0 x 15 e+23 to e+48 98 - 120 3/4/5 from 6.1kg at highest offset

pro race 1.2
New version of the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1...with the spokes just a little more withdrawn from the face for the spec guys actually rubbing their neighbors! Now in stock in 30mm. No need for hubcentric rings because these are milled 54mm hubcentric for the Miata. Center caps not included with any Team Dynamic wheel but available separate.y
