Oh the ruckus..... The guy starts off saying he cant do swap because he has no money, but can do major mods. If he doesnt have the money for a relatively 'cheap' swap like a BP, where the hell is he going to get the money to buy monsterous cams, new exhausts, porting heads, turbo kits, intercoolers and piping, safc's, emanage's, and widebands for a 1.6 you guys are talking about? He said he didnt have much money.
The sohc 1.6 is an appliance, the least happy place to start. 130 hp certainly can be successfully done (and has), but its a freaking waste of time, money, and breath compared to the BP. To each his own I guess.
The dohc 1.6 yes certainly has more potential, but even that is a relative statement. Maybe its a lot easier where you guys live, finding Miata parts isnt hard but finding a turbo Capri or 323GTX around here to scavenge bolt-on turbo parts from is like walking down the street and finding a wad of $100 bills laying on the ground. They just arent around much, and when they are, they are beat to hell and back. You can always take a crap shot and get one off eBay, buyer beware. I can go the junkyard today and find 5-10 decent Escorts or Proteges with $500-$700 BP's without even trying, drop it in in a day, and have 130 reliable horses and still pass the emissions sniffer test. As far as ease, money, and time, its an absolute no brainer.
And now I see he is talking about swapping the sohc 1.6 for a dohc 1.6, then starting from THAT point? This is just making less and less sense. FIrst he cant do a swap, then he can. He doesnt have money, but now he can get a dohc, turbos, and everything else. Seriously, what am I missing here?
