Hey Billy I had the same problem with the wheels, hopping off the line... I had these old tires on the front... I change them to some really good new rubber on the front and damn did it make a difference. If you don't know much about tires take it to a couple of tire places to get an opinion on if you need new rubber... I find most tire places will try to sell you a new set of tires no matter what, so get a bunch of different opinions.
When it hops does it feel like the wheels are slipping? Check the rubber and check how hard is it? When tires get old, they get hard and traction sucks.
Also about your uneven tire wear... definately get a wheel alignment... the hum could be that your tire is connecting at different spot of the tire causing a hum when it pushes the air out.
Well that's my share of Mr. Noodle on the subject.

I'll start there and get a wheel alignment also. If the rear wheel is still a problem than I'll go for the wheel bearing replacement and then shocks and struts.
I miss BC. Great riding. Aha, thanks,
That will save some room. Cool site. really helpful.
I tried to figure out in the engine swap section if the 2.0L four from the MX6 will mate to the trans from the MX3. Can anyone tell me? Is this swap done?
I know it sounds like my car is riddled with problems but I am just rying to catch things before they get to be big trouble. It has 206,000 km so it shouldn't be a surprise that some things are tired out.
I have noticed some shifting snags at times and I think this may be related to the motor mounts as well.
what about rebuilding these little four cyl. motors? Is it done? Who does it? What is the hot tip on engine swaps. Get an newer escort gt motor? What is the latest model engine available that bolts in with the least BS?

The 2.0 is not reccomended for the MX. It would be too much of a headache for you to get it to fit, but anything is possible.
The best engine swaps are from the 1.6 dohc GTX and 1.8 dohc GTX (B6-T,BP-T), and they will both bolt in without cutting and welding.

Thanks Dog,
How available are those engines? Are any other GTX components (drive train, suspension) transferable? Isn't that the all wheel drive rally style hatch? I don't see many of those anymore. Is that engine available as a rebuild? Short block? Ford motor product?
