Imo, it would ruin the unique look of the mx-3. I think the hatch is what makes the mx-3. If you want a convertable MX, I would go with a Miata/ front clip swap as sugested earlier

wow, based on that picture alone, my whole viewpoint on this idea has changed... i thought a convertible mx would look absolutely ridiculous, much because it wasn't designed in mind to be a convertible... i also think that the hatchback is the main facet which makes the '3 have such unique styling, and by cutting out the hatch, you might also be cutting out the personality... but that picture looks like such a sweet ride... i'd definitely like to have a convertible mx-3 (as a 2nd ride in addition to my normal mx)...
***sigh*** now if only i had thousands of dollars and an endless amount of time and know-how... nice pic fry!
now, some one get to work!!!

I always thought a T-Top MX-3 would look great, here's a crude rendition I did in photoshop of what I think it would look like:

Only 1 problem, your window tracks are inthe door... you'd have to attach the top of the door's window fram to the targa top.

I dont like it because where is the hatch?
Its just going to look like a miata...
If you want a convertible MX3, save your money, sell the MX3 and buy a Miata. That way you dont spend all that money on converting it.

Or just convert to manual seatbelts. Might as well if you're going to do something as extreme as a targa top conversion.

i think he just misinterpreted it, and thought he was talking about the seat belt track that runs up the top of the doorline.
