the vacuum bag will make sure the mold stays intact and will make sure the resin holds those fibers together and will suck out the excess resin that will just simply weigh the piece down. by doing this, it also makes the piece stronger.

about the intake manifold, simply wrapping the manifold, i'm not sure if it'll be safe. im pretty sure the resin is flammable and can catch on fire later down the road. a custom one-off intake manifold CAN be done though. ive seen it done, just you need to source a non-flammable resin to use.

ahh yes i c... so what about a cf air box? or other shrouds or covers in the engine bay? i'm curious how just wraps (like the vinyl stuff) would hold up.

but yes, eventually your car will become completely made out of carbon fiber! so marsh.. how is the roof coming? :freak:

actually i didn't mention this to a lot of people, but the front fenders, door skins, roof, hood, fuel door, rear bumper and trim around the hatchback is already carbon fiber. the trim under the taillights as well are cfiber. the only things left needed to be made in cf is rear fenders (a PITA), and front bumper and i'll basically have a cf shell. most of it was painted already. only the hood will be unpainted cf.

Hate to be a hater-- but Yeah right. You may be fairly decent with CF-- but you are not that good.

You werent even messing with CF when you got you car painted-- How the hell is most of your car now painted CF?

Again-- yeah right.

its not very hard recreating complex pieces in cf, as long as you make a proper mold and use the proper tools/equipment.

with lots of hard work. i was messing with composites and fiberglass at the time and had a few months experience, you guys just never asked. the period of when i was gone for a while was when most of the mx-3 had the cf overhaul.

but its all good. everyone has haters. if you like, i'll update you of EVERY mod i do after completed so this little hatred act won't happen again. point is, there are some mods i dont like to tell everyone about.

yannoe what, i'll take pics of the cf roof's underside and i'll try to get other pics like rear bumper from the interior and other shots. you owe me 10 minutes of my life back.

edit: here they are. i even took close-ups.
:welder:

as you can see, i even painted the roof frame the same color as the exterior of the car. i will soon do the same to the rest of the interior. no hard feelings perry, but i just hate it when stuff like this happens. hopefully these pics will change your impression of me.

Sorry, but i'm with Perry on this one. Theres no way you did that without bragging about it and showing pictures of it. Plus it looks like you just stuck some peices of CF cloth into those holes for the pictures. Nice try, but i dont beleive it.

Nice work with the dash so far though its gona look mint :2thumbsup:

I am pretty sure that the mold was destroyed somehow or another.. at least thats what it said on SRD's website a while back.
