I have a 170 degree thermo and my car's heat works great.
I know the stores also offer 192/195 thermos' too.
Your problem with no heat is likely the coolant sensor. I forget where its located. I think its in between the valve covers mounted between the heads near the power steering reseviour. At least it is on my KLZE, i think it might be located somewehre else on the K8's.
Those sensors are kinda expensive, but if they fail, not having heat is a common occurence. Happened with my protege once.
