I know its expensive but i might recommend changing your synthetic after about the first 500 miles or so. I did the same thing as you. I changed the synthetic at 500 miles and it was black.
I read that the synthetic also removes deposits left behind that even the GUNK won't remove (heck the GUNK is only in a couple minutes). Therefore your first change should come sooner because now you a running any last bits of crud through the engine. As I said mine came out black after only 500 so I buy into it.

The Gunk is supposed to be the equivelent of a kerosene flush, when I used it last that stuff stank like Kero. I did hear though that you should change your filter again 500 miles after you used Gunk because crud will sink to the bottom of the oil pan. There is no way synthetic oil can clean better than a solvent.

I haven't changed the oil on my MX-3 yet, but if the GS filter is the larger version of the 6607, it looks like I can just buy the larger GS V-6 filter for both my cars, right? My other car is a 2000 2.0 I4 Mazda 626 and uses the 6607 filter.

I did the Gunk engine flush tonight and replaced it with a cheap semi-synthetic 10W40 to run out the rest of the crap for 500 miles as prescribed before going to a Mobil 1 diet.
My car doesn't have the hesitation it was having, and it's now starting on the first crank of the enine instead of having to try a few times. Very cool. But the valve ticking actually seems louder. I'm sure it'll subside when I do the next flush, though.

Hello, thanks for all the great info, I'm looking into a flush on my next oil change, just would like to know, this is recommended for high milage engines? This is supposed to stop the ticking? Where do you buy the ?GUNK?, and are there any recommended brands? Sorry for all the questions, but I would like to try this out, especially if this will lessen the ticking. Thanks again... :)

Like I posted earlier, I did it on mine and it improved starting and at first the ticking is louder but now it's as quiet as a mouse, no noise at all!. (with high mileage)
You can buy it at Canadiantire.
[ July 04, 2003: Message edited by: jpwmx3 ]

yes you want to add 1qt of tranny oil instead of 1qt of regular oil itll quiet down HLA noise and lubricate engine very well. Im gonna do it prior to changing oil, put one qt of atf into engine and run with it for week or so. itll clean engine better than flushes too

So, 1 quart of automatic transmission fluid in engine for 500 miles will work better than a kerosene flush? Has anyone tried this? Is it safe?

I flushed the engine with 1/2kero,1/2oil 3times. By that 3rd time (it was 1/2gunk, 1/2oil), the oil mix came out clean. I noticed that on the last turn, the tapping was on and off in 3sec intervals. With the oil back in the tapping is back but lower. It drives me crazy!!! Threw synthetic in her and she consumed half of it within 100 miles. Trying a blend now. I'll keep you posted.

Those "Gunk" solvent type flushes eat your oil seals. Solvents were never meant to be in the crankcase. A better way is this:

Yes it's expensive but I would rather have a "low-impact" flush than to chance an oil leak problem.

Oh yea, if you actually want to know something about engine oil, here is another good site:

Enjoy!

All engines require adequate service intervals to be clean. Generalization of all Honda's being clean is absurd... I have seen plenty of beater honda's that had what looks like dirty gear oil come out when the valve cover comes off. That's like saying Toyota engines don't sludge up at 4K mile interval oil changes
