Re: Fuel Economy

Post by kuruption1983 »

I decided to check this matter myself, so once out of boredom, i filled up my tank till its neck, and i drove all the way to london and half the way back which is about 430 KMs, and my car stopped, so i filled it up with a tank i already had in the car and filled it up @ the next exit,, :D (our tank maxes out @ 42 litters)
Considering this car has only 85000 KMs, its a really good fuel economy.
But nothing beats a 1996 jetta MKIII diesel, you fill up a 45 liter tank and it will drive you 1400 KMS!!!

I can get anywhere from 250km to 400km per tank depending on the type of driving I guess. I usually get around the 280-320km per tank range.
That's not too bad I think considering my engine has 245k on it now and it's also an automatic.

I took these numbers from a test that a motor magazine in Denmark made in 1991.
The official numbers from Mazda:
14,1 km/litre at 90 km/h.
11,4 km/litre at 120 km/h
and
9,0 km/litre in city-trafik.
According to the test, these numbers were (as usual) a bit optimistic, but only a bit.
But ofcause these are numbers for a brand new car with no mods :)

It's funny how the US is the only big country that has NOT changed to the metric system like everyone else has 20-25 years ago.
[ April 23, 2003: Message edited by: jpwmx3 ]
