Here's a message from the past for you guys.
Well I finally got around to weighing the KL-ZE. The weight of the complete engine with exhaust up to the cat, as seen below, weighs.....
wait for it....
176kg or 388lbs. 10kg or 22lbs of that was the flywheel.
The engine was weighed using a load cell so I am fairly sure it is accurate. I wonder how much the exhaust and cast iron headers weigh....
So the prize goes to David for the best guess of 380lbs.
I didn't think it would weigh that much, and now I think the figure I have been quoted of 210lbs for the VW motor is way off and must be the bare engine.

I also weighed a couple of gearboxes I had handy.
The KLZE transaxle weighs 39kg or 85lbs (david right again)
The 1600 VW Bus transaxle weighs 38kg or 84lbs
[ October 17, 2002: Message edited by: Baja_Wes ]

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
The 1.8 is not any lighter. That makes for one of the heaviest 1.8 liter engines around.
Will you use the V6 in your car?
[ October 20, 2002: Message edited by: MX-3 SLO ]

Re: Please help - need KL-ZE info
don't know yet. Only have driven it for about 1.5 hrs total. Unfortunately I had to leave it while I am away for work for a few months. Will have to wait until I get back around May to try it out. I will put another post up here once I check the 1.4 mile time. I have a G-tec meter that I will test it with.
Thanks guys for trying to give me a weight at the start of this post (it's been around for a while...)
