No it doesn't. If it's ported it should actually help by increasing the box size for more boost near the tuning frequency.

that would be incorect. inverting a sub in a ported boc lowers the tuning frequency. doesn't boost anything. it basicly makes the box bigger. also there aren't many dail drivers with 160db. a 148 is a good respectable score and is very possible. its mostly in the box. i have seen 2 12" shocker extreme 3s hit 153db with a 20w road gear amp. that should tell you that box design is everything. i plan to build a box for 2 6.5" kickers that will prob blow everyone in my town away other than my curent setup. i have doen much research on boxes latly and there are ways to make subs louder simply by the way the box is designed. such as a folded horn, snailshell, or transmission line box.

So increasing box size doesn't increase efficiency? Sounds like you need to get some more practice working a box modeling program.

in one sense you are correct. bigger boxes are normally more eficiant but if u take a box that is designed to have the subs mounted normal and then invert the subs the tuning is now off anc can make a big difference in the output. depending on the sub it could increase or decrease

i believe it my friend hit 153.2 with a single 15" dd sub in a 8.5 cubic' box in a golf with 1000 watts rms memphis amp i hit 159.1 in my mx-3 with 2 15" 9515s dd subs in a 9 cubic foot box for each sub in a wall 4 bd 1500 amps 2 battries

I don't get the whole SPL contest thing. Iv'e got a 4ch JBL px300.4 amp putting out 75w rms to each of my Infinity Kappa speakers and a JBL bp600.1 amp powering my two 12" Rockford fosgate dvc subs /w a 1F cap...and when i crank the volume even just a bit it gets CRAZY loud. I have low tone hummm in my ears for a good 20-30min after i turn off the stereo...and i don't the amps arn't even turned up! Blows me away how you guys can argue over ~10dB range with all these different setups.

dB contests are fun, but are crazy for daily listening. I did an SPL set-up for a kid with dual bp1200.1's and dual 15" JBL GTi's and it got so damned loud on our first test drive, that if felt like it was crushing my larynx and I had trouble breathing. And that was with the "SQ" port. But I do like my sub system to at least have the dynamic room to hit 140's.
