I've got a Tranny cooler on my 92 SOHC-- and it works great.
Looks pretty cool too-- and not too hard to install.
Image
Keeping the tranny cool should make it last a lot longer, and (in theory) stronger.

I dont beat on mine either, I have 130k on it and it shifts good as new, and its on its 4th fluid change. 150k on an automatic isnt bad at all, in my opinion. It may slip for a long time before it completely goes. My Honda started to slip at 220k, then it stopped slipping and was still fine at 290k when the car was totaled, and I DID beat the crap out of it the whole time. It just wouldnt die. Some are definately better than others, and Mazda is way down on the totum pole, but you CAN get decent service life out of them if they are simply taken care of.

When i worked in a shop you should have seen some of the poorly maintained trannys that passed threw and people were like "I dun need to service dat!" Your tranny bud. Then again my brother got 380k miles out of his opels tranny.. before he just got rid of the car trannyy still held up =]

I got it at AutoZone-- Its the Medium size and it was like $39 or something. The brand name is "Deutsch Transmission Oil Cooler".
It comes with all the instructions and hardware to mount it too.

Back to the same thing i said ealier you could mount a protege lx trannyn to it jsut its lifespan would prolly be limited unless you upgrade it some.

yes to ur question above
now to hold the boost in a speed power shift....that is hold gas down as you shift. not the best for the car but doesnt ruin it as bad as some people say. about autos, of course they are better but what shows a drivers skill, how they us the clutch and throttle together while racing. the shifting, knowing ur car to its limits and shifting it perfectly....thats driver skill and thats y i choose 5 speed any day!
how easy was the tranny cooler to install? looks good too man
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

The turbo allows you to set the point at which it spools up and creates power. You could tune it so that the power wouldnt be so harsh between shifts or simply lay off the throttle. The ZE has all the power instantly, then the maximum amount of power in the RPM range at which your auto tranny would shift. The ability to tune the turbo gives it the benefit of the doubt in an auto tranny situation.
