The computer can compensate for the lack of maf signal but the engine seems to loose all his power. Tried to clean the element but no effect still the same trouble. Him starting to wonder if him not going to swap a maf from a v6 has it work in the same way but him going to have to change the plug and change the wire implacement. Him also going to correct the trouble of the different resistance off the iac.

The bellhousing his the same the only difference his that there is two bolts in front of the bellhousing to engine that or not going to be use If it's a rs 94 (earlier i don't know). I put a mazda bp engine on a mx-3 rs transmission so the opposite should be good to.

I did this engine swap on my RS. Its a great swap I've put 11,000 miles on since late summer, and its flawless. Had a few problems to start with similar to yours. Here what I had to do, PUT THE ECU FROM THE PROTEGE IN... For me that fixed everything, made idle perfect, had a rev problem fixed that. About the MAF, one I had you could unplug and it would ilde good, and I found I needed a new MAF. Let me know if this works for you. You'll definitely be happy with the swap those who are doing it. 1st and 2nd gear rubber, yeah! Smooth up ovr 100 mph!! Hope this helps Later... A.J.

If you have the tranny from the protege available to you, sounds like best to use it. I didn't so I used my tranny I had and put my 1.6 SOHC flywheel and clutch on the 1.8. Works great, sounds like I'm the only one who did it this way. Later A.J.

Really the wireing harness shares a lot of similar componets but it would be best and easiest just to swap the whole harness and ecu..
