Biggest difference can actually come via advancing the timing several degrees. It's been my experience, for whatever reason, that Mazda/ford timing maps seem to have been massively conservative.

look at my list of mods for the SOHC a definate improved over stock. not many people bother with the potenical of the SOHC but on some of these mods just testing out in the long run. the newest thing am checking out is the ECU. For now am running with a ECU of a Protege DX 1.8 sohc. So far everything working fine not throwing codes. NOTE i am just seeing the effects of doing this ecu swap. THIS MX-3 is a TESTING PROJECT of what can and can not be done with the SOHC MX-3. so please no smart *** remarks. anjin1982 hope the list of mods helps u out as far as proformance. laters

advance base timing via distributor. It will have effect of advancing timing all the way accross the map.

We went to do some programming changes on a BP Escort GT a long while back... advancing the timing hurt performance within maps of ecu, and turning timing back hurt performance more. It was nearly perfect where he had it before he came in. That was... many degrees over stock advanced... :) I'd just play with it to see what feels best, and you should be able to get close.

since we are kinda on the oil subject...should you use synthetic right away after a rebuild? i've heard somewhere that you should use regular oil. any pros/cons?

no use regular motor oil first 500 miles after rebuild, then change it and use regular oil and then change it again after 1000 miles and then change it and flush it and you can use synthetic oil

It is definitely not a good idea to break in an engine on synthetic. The stuff is just too slipery and it elongates the break in period tremendously. Go to synthetic at the second oil change for best break in and longest life.

Yeah by Pro LX i mean Protege LX for the TB and injecter as long as its within 90-94 Protege LX if ur car standard use parts form a standard LX if ur car is auto use auto LX parts.

Note on TB

The 60mm TB is a driect swap (plug and play) but i suggest swaping out the ISC (idle speed control) use the mx-3 ISC. if u use isc from the LX lowest idle u can get is 1500 rpms. use the mx-3 isc u can get the idle at desired rpms. U can find TB at the junk yard for like 30-40 bucks.

hope this answers ur ? m92_MX3 laters
