Damn 94+ MX-3's nothing but trouble.. The mechanical version is so much simpler using the kia trans.. I am going to have to keep that in mind when mazda20 upgrades from his f-series to kia trans.. The speedo gear part i mean.

Just to note even though the trans is beefier than that of the mazda g-series the stock diff is still a weak point. Already grenade ed a diff off the line at the track that wasn't fun. It can handle a bit more punishment in the 2 years i have been using it.

In all great worklog u got going on. Tidies task reassembling a manual trans been there more than once.

I cant stress enough the importance of good tools, flare nut wrenches especially:

Speedo gear and 75W90 GL-5 fluid are in:

Also plumbed in the clutch line, corksport line included:

Now what I need is a vacuum bleeder for the clutch line.
Who knew?

Yep that speedo idea doesnt work well so don't do it. Just
convert the unit to cable driven. I picked up a 91 Protege GT
to sacrifice for the good of the Mx-3.

The engine I haven't decided entirely what to do with but I suspect
I'll be rebuilding it high compression NA and making a 'plug and play'
BP to sell to a fellow Mx'er. :?:

My holy-sh*t meter went off today - im disassembling the
BP for a plethora of parts for the MX and other things and
I get to taking off the valve cover. Here is what I find:

Now either someone may have had this rebuilt already or
its been babied through its 255000 kilometers of life. My
freshy head looked about like that after 10000 kilometers.

I also took the time to get rid of my RS steelies and replace them with the
aluminum protege 14" rims. They are for winter and have bridgestone blizzaks
on em.

you know what I just figured out, you can use the electric speed sensor out of a kia sephia or a 2nd gen protege I think. I'm going to give that a try :)
