cold air intake??

Post by TysonB »

ok I have seen a few things and im really gettin confused now...for one everything I see on ebay is for SOHC I have a DOHC does that mean I cant do it???

and two corksport shows these two items I want to know the difference between them

http://www.corksport.com/content/00/01/06/61/73/shop/products/images/733014.jpg

and

http://www.corksport.com/content/00/01/06/61/73/shop/products/images/530042.jpg

what exactly does the PRM kit do that the filter air intake doesnt?

also on Barry's car in two pictures it shows 2 different things both of which I am again confused about something...

http://www.barrykclark.com/images/engine.jpg
http://www.barrykclark.com/rs/strutbar.htm

one the prm the other the air intake...question is why is the old air intake still there...I mean the boxish looking thing near the front bumper...does it still play a role in his car or is it just added weight (not much I just mean is it useless now)???

obviously I answered my first question with the picture evidence but I was refering to the fact that if I ordered one of the kits from ebay would I be able to use it on my DOHC...and that they are not just something for the SOHC exclusivly

here look at the results they all say SOHC...

The 2nd pic of Barry's car is not a CAI...it is just a confilter. The first pic is a CAI. (The same is true of the corksport filters, but opposite order).

Yes, he can get rid of that box looking thing, and move that air bag wire out of the way as well. Like mine :D .

ok then

CAI vs a cone filter...

CAI is better right I mean they both hook up to the same unit there is no such thing as useing both is there? or does the CAI (prm thing) have a filter in it? One more question where is his CAI leading to? outside his car? Where does that pipe go? (after the prm thing closest to the bumper...I cant tell whats happening with it)

and thanks alot for the help I really appretiate it...

CAI = Cold Air Intake

The PRM is better because it gets colder air that is away from the engine w/o too many curves

CAI is cold air intake, as far as I've seen. A custom air intake is just a custom intake. Yes, the SOHC Kit can be used on the DOHC, mines been on for months, just some parts aren't used. You can do a search, I've explained it a few times. When filter is in the bay, right off the airflow sensor, it's a short ram. Filter may also be located in the fenderwell to obtain cold air, avoiding the very warm engine bay air (all the tubing, lead to the filter). ebay kit can be used for either configuration. But this presents a little risk of sucking up water during heavy rains, and from puddles, so more care should be taken in those conditions.
the problem with removing the black piece that goes across the front is the loss of the prop rod's resting place, I did some customizing for that. If I could post a pic of mine I would...
If not broke - don't fix, modify. If broke - fix it right, and make it better.

YOu can see I did a little velcro-trick for that hood prop. So far it hasnt gotten dirty, nor have I gotten a loose hood prop.
