Mine gave me trouble too a while back. Just keeping working at it and make sure you pull it straight out. I used a pry bar finally and it popped out.

ok... i got the tranny out, and i finaly after prying the $hit out of it, and hitting it thro the other side of the tranny got the little "can" peice to fly out (at the wall) and i put it back to gether but the metal band didn't fit, so i used a metal band that u can tighten w/ a socket... i tightend it pretty tight... will that work? or am i gonna have major issues? thanks...

Splurge on a new axle. It's $60 with a $45 core charge at AutoZone. I imagine that you are going to need to scrape off a lot rust all over the place because I just finished the same job on my '92 but most of my trouble came with putting the axel back in.

I'm from Cottage Grove, MN, are you anywhere near me?

Good luck,
Ryan

cool, im in new hope mn, i didn't have much trouble getting it back in, its working just fine, i took the band off and used what was basicly like a metal zip tie, my dad got them from his work, and they hold pretty tight, there just as thick, but where it comes together is really small. i really don't wanna buy a new one, because they are only a month old.
