headers

Post by Redlined »

I know this has been asked before because I have spent the last 3 hours searching for a response but have a few mixed answers. SO I have the 94 DOHC RS and I want a header. THe stock header is supposedly designed fairly well but not to what I want. I read that a protege header bolts right up but that doesn't seem right to me. Wouldn't more of us have them? I really need a header and some say theres none available some say go get a custom one. well im sorry but a custom one is a waste of time and money. Id be better off making one out of ABS pipping then getting a custom one lol
any one know of the real deal with headers for the RS?

You have nailed it.

There are none available. Thats why you couldn't find anything about them.

Sorry!

I know this is for a diff engine...but it may be of interest to someone (many may already know)
I just got an email from John Pinfold @ Marcor and he says that they should have a header available for the 1.6 SOHC by may or june at a cost of $389.00 (Canadian) :2thumbsup:
Anybody else hear of this??

WHY the Hell are companies developing things for this crappy excuse for a motor?

They should be making things for the 1.8L BP or the BPT.

I cant beleive there is a Turbo kit for the SOHC, someone made a CAI, and now someone is making a header...

What a shame!

That motor should have never been made-- its really a huge piece of crap.

(Actually a few years ago, I think Marcor was trying to make some and they stopped due to lack of interest... Vaughn had that on his website somewhere I think...)

True, the SOHC isn't the best powerhouse...
HOWEVER...it too has, and needs, it's place in the performance world. Maybe it's just me, but I'm happy that at least a few major companies are giving the SOHC a shot...(turbo, header, etc.)
Keep in mind, not everyone can afford to swap to the much better BP, BPT, etc. (although it's worth it if you're really looking for power) :2thumbsup:

For the cost of that Header and the CAI-- you can have a BP.

Forget the Turbo kit!

BAck to the topic at hand.

The sohc was used in a wider selection of cars, so making products for it actually lets you have a larger market. The DOHC in the mx-3 was a one run motor. As in the exact setup was not used elsewhere.

Given i am going to be using my old DOHC mx3 motor again i will start to do some researhc but we already have a probe header for it.

The 1.6 protege motor does bear a lot of resemblance. I would get exsaust manifold gaskets for both cars and see if they line up.

Btw the DOHC has a crappy header. the SOHC has the nicer one.

My friends has a crashed mx-6, with probe headers in it. I'm guessing the headers have to be modified, if so how exactly?

you need to cut off the flange on the probe header and make a new one that will bolt up to your DOHC and weld the flange on the header piping with some minor bending of the pipes.
