Stupid questions about the BP...

Post by Shades »

My engine just blew up... oil just shot outta it and it siezed up.

Considering it's siezed up, I'd probably have to rebuild it or something else.

If I get a BP engine (non-turbo) would that just bolt in and not need anything else or modifications?... just a swap-swap and hook everything else up?

Also, this may sound stupid but it's cause I have a lack of funds right now... but if I got a BPTurbo engine and took off the turbo to use at a later date, would that work?

Yah, but maybe I'm not clear with the question.

Can I throw a BP with no turbo in and just bolt it up without any modifications and changing anything (no ecu upgrade, no different tranny, etc)...

Hey, I got a couple. What kind of HP does the BP put out? Can the 1.8 block be bored, if so to what? And, how much should you hope to gain by turboing it? (I've heard more than the BPT, just curious how much more). Thanks

all of this stuff has been discussed before.

The BPT bolts in, using the B6 ecu isn't going to work well and might require some splicing of sensors, but it should run the motor very half-a$$ed for the time being.

Using a BPT without the turbo will prove to be slow as ballz, but will at least run for the time being until you can afford the other stuff.

Boring a BP isn't something that is attempted often. I've read that some guy was able to stroke and bore it to 2.2 liters in a miata, but I've never heard of anyone boring out the FWD version. The BP motor is built for boost, so turboing it shouldn't be a problem. The transmission is what you should worry about more than the motor.

Thanks for the info Gro (oh and nice job on the paint, :2thumbsup: wish I had a place to try it myself) but I still havent been able to find the HP numbers for a stock BP. Know where I can get them?
