Need some help With a bp

Post by nos92mx3 »

Well today i went out and looked at a 91 escort gt and it wasnt in bad shape there was a couple of problems that i did notice with it.1.dead battery, exhaust disconected (fallen?) off of cat and it needs a vavle cover gasket (I believe). When we finally got it jump started it idled at 3k rpms, then we took off the jumper cables and it died shortly after (hence dead battery, maybe alternator i dunno) the car hadnt been started up since late december/early january. My question is there any obvious reasons why the motor would idle so high? i didnt bring many tools with me (yes i am a dumb-*** )i didnt mess with the throttle at all, are theree any serious things i should look for? Help plz.

I cant help you on the idle question, but even though the battery was dead the engine should have continued to run if the alternator was good. I would say (how was it AUTOZONE put it?) ALTERNATOR DEATH! has occured.

ok finally made it up there again and got the car started still idles at 3k but when i put the gas to the floor the rpms barley move i mean like 3k......3.1k.........3.2k etc. the idle was really really rough but it hasnt been started and ran for awhile, what could be the problems? I was thinking that it might be miss firing. any help/opinions would be appreciated.

yea i played with the throttle and played with the throttle adjuster. i checked for vaacum leaks in the air intake hose and a bunch of other places. How would an alternator make it do that? I had the gas to the floor and the rpms barley moved, im confused....the las time they drove it,last december i guess it drove very well..They guy wants 400$ for the car but i dont want to buy one with a **** engine and be stuck with it, i also chcked the spark plugs and two on the right hand side didnt want to come out, the 2 that i did get out had oil on the threads and 1 was burnt, (tip was black) suggestions plz.
