1992 SOHC Dyno Results (Warning, it might make you want

Post by atlantamx3 »

Okay-- now first-- you have to realize that this is from April of 2001 when I had the chance to go to a dyno day here in Atlanta. (1st time I have been able to post it)

Only mods were HKS Filter Adapter w/ Weapon-R Filter and a Aftermarket Muffler.

Dont laugh-- I didnt think it was too bad for an engine that was basically stock and almost 10 years old at the time.

1st the Dyno:

Yeah yeah I know-- Laugh all you want to guys.

I am doing people a favor here by letting them know what they have to work with if they have the SOHC and are starting from scratch.

I am used to the laughter and people making fun of my slow-a$$ car-- but I still love it and have lots of fun with it.

You guys with the V6 or even the DOHC 4 Cyl have NO IDEA what us SOHC guys have to deal with.

So keep on laughing-- this is REAL MX-3ing right here.

Its easy for you guys with Turbos and ZE's and misc swaps to post your numbers. But lets face it-at least I am not afraid to post my low numbers like many of you would be.

I now have my full intake with new wires & plugs & filter-- so I would be interested to see if there was any difference.

Horrible graph, very shaky. Other than the look of the graph, those numbers are respectable.

yea whats so funny i mean this guy is probably the only guy with guts to post sohc dyno numbers... and its a good thing because he gave us a realistic base to start off of. i can't wait ti get the turbo in and see what results i get. save us the stress of our "90whp" expected gain after dynoing our sohc motors when we know the results we'll really get.

it'd be funny to see you guys complain about the "80whp" results you get from your dohcs.

You also have to keep in mind that I have an Automatic-- which is EXTREMELY hard to do a good Dyno on since I cant keep it from shifting gears...

Manual Trannies on the SOHC may produce slightly better numbers... (just a guess)

On the top speed Dyno-- notice the torque spikes?? Thats when I am changing gears- Which means @ some point during my driving I am spiking near 150 ft lbs of torque. So during gear changes I CAN get some wheelspin from the 1st-2nd shift sometimes... if its wet.. if I am going around a curve... if I am lucky... LOL.

I am going to try to re-dyno this lil baby some point in the near future. It has been running pretty strong lately-- so I might be up near 70 hp now.. LOL.

:D

your DOHC has 105 Hp and 110lb TQ. An sohc has 88 HP. Your numbers will be a lil higher than that.

For a stock sohc that is good.. a fun drive is not always about power. i drove a soch and was quite impressed given the power to how it felt on the road.

atlantamx3: I feel your pain. I also have a SOHC MX-3 automatic. Every time I drive an uphill my car will slow down dramatically. It felt like it couldn't make it. I finally had enough and drove my car to a-spec in Canada for the BTP swap which is in progress right now.
