Q for torpedan

Post by Timmyd865 »

Hey man. I gotta 95 mx-3. I'm really gettin interested in the BPD swap. I found a motor for 500 with 60k miles on it just 10 mintues away. It is a For Escort GT engine, but yeah.. still the same u know? :) Now, what alllll do i need? What have u done to make it run right? Does it run right? I see you ran a 15.9! I already have full exhaust. Do they offer headers for this engine? What have u done for fuel managament/drivetrain? And does anyone know of anywhere to buy high CR pistons and cams? Cause it'd be a good thing to play with this larger displacement engine! I'll bet u could pull out a lotta ponnies! Thanx :) If you wanna talk sumtime you can email me at tim.dodd@cfu.net or on IM with tdsmx3 Thanx a bunch!

Yeah most of what i did was extreme wieght reduction. But yeah you can get headers for it. JUst search for the parts for the doner car..
Also look around for miata internals.. the miata 1.8 is a BP series. Stock they have a modestly higher cr and a tad bit more aggresvie intake cam.
Personally things needed for the swap this is what i would suggest doing.. If you gots the money and intend on doing the flywheel/clutch get it done now its already out of the car.. Also do the water pump and timing belt.. SImply because its out of the car. If your gonna get major internal stuff done Rinse lather repeat.. mostof that labour involed is pulling stuff you will have already pulled. Btw check out www.corksport.com they have quite a few parts for the car. under the 90-94 protege lx dohc.
We got a full front end clip but for the most part its best to get motor, tranny, ecu and wirining harness. Look around for details on what mounts and axels to use to get the combo right. I cant remmeber if there is any problem with the axels.
Runs perfectly.. ASlthough we recently had to retard the timing back to stock cause its 105 outsitde right now and it was pinging with full advance.
Fuel wise i am jsut running stock system it doesnt need anything upgraded with minor bolt ons its when you change that up that you have problems.
BTw these motors love boost. If your gonna dump serious cash into it turbo it. You wont regret it
Im is kinda generic what messanger do you use?
