Wires and plugs are good but you're probably not going to see noticable gains unless the ones you've got are really bad.
Have you switched to synthetic oil? You can also use a larger oil filter such as for a Hyundia Elantra. For Mobil oil filters: M1-104.
Have you considered the TB coolant bypass? I don't think anyones got phenolic spacers on the l4 bengines, but it might be worth looking into.

yeah, switch to synthetics, you really notice the difference, 1st time I ever spun tires in the mx was the 1st time I put in the mobile 1.

Oil was the 2nd best mod i did as far as performance gains goes, its weird how often oil is overlooked, you won't really feel any gains from the wires and plugs, but it does help a little, i think the stock wires are 7mm, i had 7's when i bought it, so i'm guessing they were stock, not a bad size, i have 8mm ones on there now and they are from msd, i had to splice the tips on there myself, but should be available at your local autoshop.

Are you guys for real? I really didn't know that synthetic oil would give me better gains. Maybe longer lasting enginge. It must be negligible. I've got 175k miles and have been using sythetic Mobil 1 for the last 125k. I guess I just never noticed it. BTW, car runs great! :D
Yeah, I concur; do that thingy with the oil.
one

The advantages of a larger oil filter are better flow and higher filter cappacity. The larger surface area is really the important thing; It lets more oil through, and traps more dirt because the velocity per area is lower.

I measured the gasket flange & there's a LARGE tolerance, the size & pitch of the threads are the same as well (Fram web site lists size specifications, you just have to tell it the car type, DON'T use Fram filters though).
