engine over heating

Post by codene »

so i bought a new radiator and ive checked the two hoses goin to the block from the radiator. my engine is still overheating. i fill up my new raiator and my entire reserve tank and i can driv eabout 215 miles before i need to refill it again. is this a headgasket or something else? also i look at the pavement after ive left my car parked awhile and i can never see water on the ground. im thinking headgasket or seals but is there a way i can know which it is or if tis something else?

make sure your thermostat is working and also that you don't have an air lock in the system.

Also check your coolant by-pass hose. If your upper and lower radiator hoses havent collapsed and you got a new radiator, the by-pass hose could be the problem. I had my whole cooling system replaced 2 weeks ago, cost a grand. But oh well, sh** happens.

i dont think its the thermostat cuz im actually losing water. ill get out today and check my bypass valve. i think somehting went majorly wrong last night. i pulled into my dads house filled the etire radiator full and resevoir with water, drove home (about10 miles) and left it. woke up this morning and was on my way to the bank (about another 5 miles) and it started ocer heating again. so i only got about 15 miles befor it tried to overheat, only thing is i still have a full resevoir its just not sucking it in. thanks for the help though. fellas. ill check it in a little bit and let ya know.

Do an oil change, that will tell you if it is the head gasket. When you fill the rad, is the car running? It needs to be, that way the system will pump it throught the car allowing you to completely fill the system (approx 6L). Don't rule out the thermostate.
