Bro' ... I had the exact same problem ... so some idiot cranked the idle up ... DO NOT DO THIS!!! ... My problem ended up being bad valves ... So I got a valve job done on it and it runs mega-smooth although the ECU isn't quite compensating right when I use the a/c and rear defrost together ... But I'll never have to use 'em both at once so who cares right ... So maybe you may want to look into that area ... cheers

I had done it as a temporary fix, until it warms up, and I can take a better look at it.

Well it won't be that huge of a deal if you fix the problem as soon as possible ... the thing is that you could easily blow your tranny out because it will be engaging at such a high RPM that the gears will have a lot more stress applied to them than when they were being engaged say @ 750RPM or so ... that is one of the main things anyways ... but you still wouldn't want your car to idle above 1000RPM ... it's just way too high bro' ... The other day I took my mazda into the dealership they checked it over full computer dianostics and everything they couldn't really come up with and answer they even checked for vacuum leaks compression tests and everything checks out ok. I got pist off paying out alot of money with nothing to show for it took the car home looked it over myself did some reading on fuel injection and took some idea's applied it and found the car is not getting enough air throwing the ecm off big time took the intake off and found loads off garbage in the intake ports climbing right into the intake manifold cleaned everything up took me two days took the exhaust manifold off it was worse than the intake manifold who ever had the car before me more likely pist in the gas tank to get them to the work and back put everthing back together fired it up today the car runs like new again so who ever has the same problems that I had and you tried everything else check into the intake manifold area because you might not be getting enough air into the engine afterward went to the dealership and gave the service manger crap and showed him some pics and I don't I'll be bring my car back here I would rather fix it myself.<P>Don
