Auto or Manual

I have a 4-cyl auto MX-3. After being a member of the greatest website EVER created, I noticed that the engines and transmission die young. So I am looking ahead to future for my MX-3, as far as new engines. I was wondering how much would it cost to turn my auto into a 5-speed? Also what type of mods would have to be done to make this possible? Thank you advance for your assistance
