I was bored tonight and decided to tear down a couple of spare transmissions I have...
I picked up a 94 2.5L probe transmission for $50... I didn't know what shape it was in but I had hoped to rebuild it... Unfortunately the whole thing is going to the trash can...
Probe transmission..
Upper case half, under 5th gear... :bash: Counter shaft chewed into the case half rendering it garbage..
Lower case half.... :bash: Toast!
Counter shaft bearing blew up...
Now on to the fun! B6T and KLDE guts on the bench...
A pile of case halves...
I'll start at the top... The back covers... KLDE on the top, B6T on the bottom... notice how much flatter the B6T is...
Inside of the B6T back cover...
Inside of the KLDE back cover..
The KLDE cover is changed to help pick up more oil and feed it to the counter shaft... The back covers are interchangeable...
Rear case halves are almost identical... There are a couple noticeable differences... But it looks like they could be interchangeable... The KLDE one has slightly different casting to accommodate a different rear mount set up..(didn't get pics) If you were to use the KLDE rear half on a B6T/BP car it looks like it would work, but you couldn't go the other way...The KLDE rear case half has extra ribbing around the diff area.. I am going to assume this is for more strength..
KLDE rear case half..
B6T rear case half..
Also different is the oil guide that feeds the rear cover(5th gear) with oil... The KLDE one is larger and more open.. more able to catch and transfer more oil... It also extends into the front case half area...
The B6T one... its metal and shaped completely different.. smaller and doesn't past the rear case half area..

Re: B6T transmission VS KLDE transmission VS MTX75 diff
On to the front case halves... They are totally different as expected... KLDE uses a hydrolic clutch set up.. where as the B6T is cable... The bell housing bolt pattern is totally different and the starter locations are different... Interesting to see though... KLDE has improved pick up areas for feeding oil to both shafts...
KLDE..
B6T...
Also changed is the shift gates and reverse lock out... Not sure why.. it looks like both could be interchanged...
B6T shift gate/reverse lock out..
KLDE...
Shift forks are totally different...
1-2 select fork for a B6T is aluminum... KLDE is cast and a completely different shape... Not to sure about interchangeability but I'll play with that when I get to rebuilding a transmission for my car..
3-4 select forks are completely different as well... The one I am holding is the KLDE one.. it was broken when the trans blew up...
Diffs as we know are swappable... The KLDE ring gear is slightly thicker...
Now for fun... I was looking into the possibility of using a focus (MTX75 diff)... So here is all 3 lined up... the MTX75 diff is taller, the ring gear is positioned differently... all in all wont work...
Shafts are almost identical when you look at them...
KLDE on the right...
Now for the good stuff... gear ratios... my eyes are pretty sore from counting teeth...
Probe KLDE is the same as all the info I have found..
1st 3.31
2nd 1.83
3rd 1.31
4th 1.03
5th 0.78

Just an F series out of an 88 323 B6....I might pull that apart for shits and giggles... That and I am going to talk to a friend to see if he has a spare BP transmission...Ryan wrote:Thanks for this.
