Engine Identity!

Post by icajewler »

So I was doing some research and came across an engine type chart. I know it's in the FAQ, but there are some things in there that people disagree with. I was wondering if there is an acknowledged difference between the American spec K8 and the Japanese spec K8. The chart showed a difference saying A-Spec is called k8de and J-Spec is called k8ze. I just thought they were all the same, being called k8ze. At least that's what's on my k8 that I just took out.

One has 130hp the other has 145hp. Of course considerably less at the wheels. Mostly just the tune in the ECU and different pistons. Dont swap a K8ZE into your car if thats where you going with this question lol

Would a Mazda engineer or mechanic be able to get to the bottom of the horsepower debate that plagues k series engine forums?

Anything I can find in reference to is lists is as 95 to 99kw. Like 98kw in '92, 95kw in '94 and 99kw in '97.

There is a few references to 103kw, but it`s hard to call them good sources.

99kw being 135hp, and 103kw being 140hp.
