Oil on top of front Valve Cover

Post by zerialz »

Getting a small pool of oil on top of the front valve cover where the plug wires seat. The area where the VC gasket is appears to be dry. The area where the oil pools the most seems to be around the 2 and 4 cylinders furthest away from the PCV valve. Where do you think this mystery oil is coming from?

Closest thing is the bolt there, between the wires.

They have rubber sealing under those caps, could be leaking from there.

Also check the oil cap itself.

My oil cap was missing the rubber ring and also leaked from there.

The oil could possible working its way in there while driving, dunno.

That's somewhat of a relief. I was expecting someone to say piston ring blow by lol. The wells appears to be dry so I think your guess is more logical.. I'll also check the Oil Cap o-ring.
As always I'll let you guys know..
Thanks again.

Seems to be coming from that bolt between the 2 & 4 cylinders. It appears maybe an ounce of oil will pool over about a week of spirited driving . All things considered, I'll just keep an I eye on it in case it gets worse. I plan on doing VCGs anyways.

Well I got to looking at it more after drying it off every couple of days and determined 100% that leak was the bolt between 2 and 4.. I decided to give about 1/2 turn with the ratchet. It's been a couple of days and no more leak :) Thanks guys.. Now I just have to fix the few drops I get from around the oil filter area. I'm thinking it's either the oil filter housing to block gasket is slightly leaking or the Oil Pressure Switch.
