Savin's '93 MX-3 GS

Post by Savin »

I purchased the car about 2 weeks ago. I couldn't pass up the deal I got it for. It failed emissions. I had originally walked from the car due to rust, but the guy called me back with a lowered price and I immediately turned around to go get it. My plan is to drive it in the winter so I can keep the purple one off the roads once the snow flies. The car needs work, but I've basically fixed everything with the spare parts I've had from the mx-3's of the past, lol.

Non-functional turn signals - fixed
Non-functional passenger power window - fixed (motor burnt out and bad pass. side switch)
Crappy white painted dash vents - replaced
Passing emissions - Work in progress

The only other major things I want to do are to replace the worn out front seats and convert it to manual seatbelts.

On to pics! I'll get good ones of it once I've cleaned it. Its soooo dirty.

The sideskirts are some weird Ferrari-ish style. I've never seen them on another mx-3 before. It almost appears like there should be something that goes on the lower portion of the door.

cool man congrats . on the emission part u can switch to e85 , just need a few mods done . like upgrade the fuel pressure and msd coil hei mod for a stronger spark and the emission testing will be clean as heck , since e85 is an fuel alternative and its cleaner to burn the mx will pass with flying colors . only on the co nox hc test.

kulluminati777 - Yes, they're staying. I kinda like 'em.

mazda915 - Its just the number 1 injector sticking open. I'm running some injector cleaner through it. If that doesn't work, I'll just run it on almost pure denatured alcohol. It worked for my mustang. The 5.0 V8 scored lower numbers than my 4cyl mx-3, lol.

Surgeonasst222 - My passion for the cars is slowly returning. The lovely sound of the V6 is really helping! And I have 7 cars in total. 4 are currently legally plated (cavalier, sunfire, mustang, and 95 mx-3) The red mx soon will be and the other 2 cars...well...the SE will never run again and the Thunderbird hasn't seen the light of day in over 4 years, lol.

RobMinhas - The car had been repainted at one point. The only rust I've seen is on the rocker panels and lower door lips. The underside is solid from what I can see. (haven't jacked it up yet) The sideskirts were installed wrong so water is able to get into the inner rockers.

Ahh I see, bit worried about my sideskirts for the same reason.

And why won't the SE ever run again? I seem to be out of the loop regarding your situation.

The stuff that was done to the SE isn't up to par with what I would like. (bodywork/rust repair, engine swap/custom wiring. 93SOHC used frankensteined an OBDII mx-6 harness with his OBDI SE harness for the KL swap.) Everything that I saw was such a mess. In all honesty, I just couldn't trust the rest of the repair work that I couldn't see.

I gave a bunch of stuff to Surgeonasst222 when he came down to visit and I installed the interior and power windows into my RS. I'll eventually swap out the engine of the RS over to the KL-DE from the SE and swap to the disk brakes. At least that way I know what has been done and can trace down any issues easier.

Fixed a bunch of wiring today. Ripped out the non functional aftermarket alarm/remote start/keyless entry stuff. Got rid of the stupid push button start it had. The ignition switch is still functional so I didn't have to swap that out luckily. Fixed the radio wiring so now the CD player actually works. Also replaced some more random plastic dash bits.

Replaced front and rear brakes recently. All new caliipers/pads/rotors. The car doesn't handle too bad in the snow, but holy crap does the heat suck in this thing compared to my RS. The heat gets scorching hot in that car and this car barely makes it "warm" inside. I'm thinking a stuck open thermostat is a culprit, but its been near 0 outside lately. and I don't want to mess with liquids when its that cold out, lol.
