Stainless Nuts/Bolts

Post by MrMazda92 »

I am just curious how many of you share my little habit.

Nearly every time I upgrade something(or even repair/replace stock parts), I use stainless fasteners to replace rusty factory ones. In the case of my bumper swap, I sandblasted and painted the factory nuts...

I'm working on a full stainless setup for the visible hardware in the engine bay as well. Intake manifold nuts/bolts, throttle body nuts/bolts, valvecover bolts...

Rust bothers me, a lot. If I could afford to do it all at once, I would clean, sandblast, and powdercoat everything that ever shows a sign of rust. As it is, I do rust/corrosion prevention on new performance parts, and clean up everything I remove and re-use.

I know that I'm not the only one who wants their car to last forever, and I've seen evidence of this in your worklogs! I'm just curious how many people go this far?

Yeah me too, changed quite a few so far! It doesn't cost that much but makes a big difference.
Spent a good few hours with verniers working out sizes for a lot of them. Would go completely colour matched
anodized crazy if I could afford too

It really is nice, especially come repair/service time, when rust is a thing of the past. :D

I am quite satisfied with plain old stainless, since color-matching EVERYTHING would cost more than the car! It's mostly for rust prevention, although the aesthetic appeal IS a bonus.

Engine bay hardware rarely rusts, it's all covered with a nice coat of oil/grease

Hah, especially near the power steering pump/reservoir!

That stuff is MINT when you wipe it away! I can't wait to yank that leaky SOB... Can't wait at all.

Id love to replace mine but its pita to remove it. Seems like I'd have to remove engine cradle to get better access to it. Not much room at all.
