Finally Moving!!

Post by Josh »

So after months and months of being held up I am finally moving back into a house with a huge two car garage. Much better than condo living. It is not in the greatest of areas but it is in the "nice" part if that counts for something. What this means is I will have TONS of time to get the AWD car back up an operable. I am freakin excited about that. I should have it up and running on the road by December. This is going to be great!

Just had to share :)

Over the next few weeks I will over document and make sure to update everything. I will be moving at the end of the month so soon after that I will have the car down there. I am thinking about making a tow hitch for the GS and renting a tow dolly and towing it with the GS  its a 3 hour drive...

That'd be hilarious, I definitely want to see it! Definitely don't want to imagine the fuel economy though, MAYBE 20 MPG?

Hey good to hear Josh. As far as a dolly, I pulled a MX3 with a Mazda MPV. The front wheels were not able to turn on the dolly and it threw my MPV around if I didn't do the widest of turns. Get a dolly with the ability to let the front wheels on the MX3 turn for sure.

Thanks guys, yeah last time I towed it i rented one from the Uhaul and it did have the turning ability. I will make sure it does. I will get pictures for sure. the GS at 20mpg ... meh I bet I average 24. I get 25 rodding the hell out of a tank of gas so should not be too bad. I will need to however change my front brakes first.

Does anyone know what the mounting points were for the OE trailer hitch? from the design it appears to me that it would bolt to the rear frame rails. I was thinking about taking some U channel steel and welding that to the frame rails, then drilling holes through, two one each mounting point, and sliding pipe in and welding the pipe in place, so they would be sleeves. Then make the hitch bar bolt to the mounting points.

What do you guys think?

If you come down here, you can borrow my tow hitch setup, and make plans from it. Otherwise, I might be able to dig it out. It has 4 bolts. I think it bolted to the tops of the tow hooks.

Do you think you might be able to snap a couple of pics of it for me? That way I can get a good idea of what I need to make. I want to make one that will be a little over kill. I am planning on making a trailer soon out of an old B2200 ;) not sure if I want to go long bed or short yet though.

Yeah. I need to find it, and dig it out of the packed garage. Remind me in a few days if you don't hear from me.

Don't weld bolt it to the existing frame rails. There's issues with welding but I won't bore you with the details.
