Do OBDII codes clear when you fix a problem?

I've never messed with OBDII. My girlfriend's Vibe has a CEL, and I think it's the gas cap. I'm going to replace it, but I don't know if I need to drain the CPU capacitor, or if it will clear if the problem is fixed.

Hard code you have to clear it. Come by my house, I have an OBD2 reader and I'll erase the code. I assume you referenced what the code was right my technically giffted friend (and a sharp dresser too I might ad).

Cool. If I leave now, I can be there in a few weeks. Yeah, the codes are for the Cat not keeping oxygen (I lose so many pets this way), a possible problem with a leak in the vapor recovery system, and another relating to that. I guess I'll detach the battery, and blow the horn (I make many friends this way).

As cars are getting newier and OBD2 regulations are getting stricter disconnecting the battery doesn't always work... Some cases you need a scan tool to clear the codes now...

That's for clearing the memory in the OBD1 cars so the ECU can 'relearn' say after installing new O2 sensors or a,,,,ZE.

Thanks, crazycanadian. It's a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. I think it will drain the capacitor. I think the horn will drain it faster than the brake light.
