FWIW I vote going topless. I am and loving every minute. Get a magnet if you drop a bolt in the engine valley.

if anyone is ever needing a new knock sensor keep in mind that standard motor products knock sensor for the kl series is mazda oem. its also the cheapest one i was able to find online, so you can save yourself quite a bit going with it compared to a dealer or aftermarket. they can be found easily at ebay, amazon or rockauto.
