o2 sensor mounting position

Post by WhiteFinish »

Hi Guys,

Would the position of the controller (left side of the picture) affect the reading on the gauge ?
Should it be mounted horizontal, or it shouldn't matther ?

If that is indeed the controller, it is entirely solid state and its orientation doesn't matter.

Perhaps controller isn't the right word. It can be used to calibrate the sensor if needed.

controller is not the wrong word for it, its just weird having it in the engine bay like that IMO.

either way, you're good. Its all just transistors and other black magic, nothing that is affected by orientation.

The strange thing is that my wideband reads different value's.
I checked my new wideband and old wideband sensor with this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mb4VmDd0ao

clearly new one indicates it's fine.

When i install the WB in my exhaust, it runs to lean 18.8 immediately. (even without starting the car)

is it a self calibrating unit? its likely the sensor is toast too. IF they're run cold, or too rich or lean for too long, they burn out/plug up.

The sensor is brand new. So it should be faulty.

I have no idea if it is a self calibrating sensor, it's the AEM UEGO 4200

I did a little reading, your sensor shouldn't require re-calibration.

Are you getting these readings from the gauge, or from your tuning software? You may need to tell the software the voltage curve for your particular sensor.

From both,

But only when in the exhaust.

Tunerstudio and the aem gauge both show 18.9 without the car running.

...it might be right? If the car has run before, its possible that your exhaust sits around 18.9 on shutdown.

what about running? does it make sense then?
