For the crank bolt on the harmonic balancer I believe most people use a power bar and pipe on that bolt then either removing the engine fuse or remove the disty cap (so the engine can't start up) have some one carefully turn the ignition key and momentarily crank the engine.

We tried that already. We actually found that on youtube. It is really on there. The funny thing is it was oober loose when we originally took it off. My boyfriend just told me that his friend is going to let us borrow some bolt pullers. Fingers crossed that it will work. :)

We got the bolt out! Yaay! We got all the accessory belts back on and changed all the fluid out. We had a fuel leak and we fixed that. Now we have something that is taking up all the charge in the battery so tomorrow we are going to see if we can find what it is. The engine it self is fine. When I turn it over it doesn't knock or anything like that.

Does anyone know what this goes to? It is driving us crazy everything else is hooked up but this. It is in between the throttle body and the battery.

Re: Update for 92 mx3 with KF-ZE (Question about harness)

Is that the male end that is part of the harness?
You are looking for the female end
of the sensor that comes out of the back of the motor?

It is a JDM engine so it doesn't have an EGR. We found a photo and it is the harness for the EGR. Right now we are trying to figure out why it is not firing. The engine is turning over it is just not getting any spark. We eliminated everything but the timing. Also there is slack in the timing belt.

You did pull the retention pin out of your TB tensioner right?

Yeah. I honestly am afraid it is stretched or something because the pulleys to it are fine and everything else is fine. We figured out why it is not firing though. It is the timing and we are fixing it. Hopefully next weekend we will be able to get her up and purring. :)

Re: Update for 92 mx3 with KF-ZE (Engine rotates, no start)

Post by Beccabob593 »

Ok, so we got the engine together & timing set correctly. Engine wants to start but doesn't. Starter engages smoothly, engine turns over smoothly. It will cough a little like its trying to get started, but just doesn't have enough juice to get going.

We noticed that the hydraulic timing belt tensioner is bad - it's not creating any tension on the belt. Did some shopping and found a replacement for $44.

Does anyone know if the hydraulic tensioner can be converted to a manual tensioner? Like the ones used for the serpentine belts?
