quick question on the V6 Alternator swap.

Post by Dark_Rider2k3 »

I sold a member my V6 alternator, but have a quick question that I can't seem to find via search:

Do you have to swap the bolts when swapping the V6.

If I can remember correctly, the bolts won't just go on like they did with the 4cyl alternator. I think you have to "swap" the bolts.. but I can't remember how you "swap" them.. is it which one goes on top and on bottom, or is it the actual physical direction (like instead of it sliding in from the back of the alternator, you slide it in from the front to lock it on?

I just can't remember how the V6 alternator mounts up on the 4cyl motor.

YOu have to swap the pulley as well. I ended up going to Ace Hardware to find a bolt and nut that fits, otherwise you have to use the long bolt from the GS.

I think you have to slide it in backwards too, it's been a bit of time...

Why did you have to swap the pully? is he using it on a SOHC?

And all you should have to do is put the bolt in from the other direction. It can be a PITA but you can wiggle it in there.

This whole thread is in reference to the GS alt I got off of Dark_Rider. Check out my work log for the workaround, rant and eventual installation of the alternator

You don't have to change the pulley its wider than the RS belt so you still get full grip.
