Those plastic parts always go (crack). There are aluminum ones I believe they're on the 626. Either replace the entire neck with a later model or source that with an aluminum part

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread
$120 for that little part?
What, is it made to order in Japan? I find the dealer to be somewhat reasonable, but that is... well, not.
Dan is totally right, by the way If I recall, he's had some issues with it himself.

It was $120 to order a brand new caliper bracket from Mazda in Eugene. I sourced one from Rock Auto WITH a reman. Caliper, and all bolts for $100($40 core)

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread
Having problems to find my coolant temp sensor and fan sensor. The problem- Radiator cooling fan is not kicking in (in very rare occasions only). I suspect it's faulty temp sensor, because it shows inccorect temp readings all the time(and probably don't send the signal for fan to kick in).
Which is which? Would be nice if someone could mark those sensors for me.
Looked upon service manuals, but it didn't enlighten me much.
Thanks in advance!

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread
Ok, on the left side of the picture near the rad cap, top to bottom:
1- grey 2 pin plug -> knock sensor
2- beneath grey, little single wire sensor -> dash gauge sender
3- green sensor -> coolant temp
4- black sensor -> fan switch
There is no engine controller connection between the dash gauge and the other two coolant sensors. As far as the ECM goes, they're entirely separate. Won't even throw a CEL if you disconnect the dash sender, AFAIK the ECM doesn't monitor it at all.
So if that guage is reading funny, AND the engine is behaving funny, its unlikely that they are both malfunctioning.
My first guess is that your coolant needs topped up. when the engine is completely cool, remove the upper rad cap (by the sensors) and look inside for coolant. If its not right topped up, do it.
Start there.

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread
Been there, done that. Nothing changed. My coolant is still leaking somewhere(I think I found where, will specify today).
Thanks for writing down a list with those sensors, but could you please show those sensors on picture(edit the picture with paint,by adding circles e.t.c?).
Was trying to get some info here- http://mx-3.com/manuals/showimg.php?fil ... E2-002.gif
Still, I guess black/white pictures aren't for me.
P.s- just noticed some wierd thing. While driving the temperature was going up. I stopped and turned off the heater. Temp gauge dropped a little bit. Turned on the heater- it rised again. What could that mean?

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread
I got a set of Mazdaspeed Racing Harts from a Miata, 40+ offset (according to google)
Can I install 225/45/17 tires? I am lowered on Eibachs
If not, what is the recommended tire size on a 17" rim with +40 offset?

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread
Our stock offset is +45 so your miata wheels will stick a little farther out than stock, and the overall diameter will be 4.5% larger which is quite a bit. it will most likely rub on your struts...for sure under cornering.
215/45/17 would be ideal.
use this tool to check this type of thing...

Stock wheel is 15x6" 45ET 205/55/15.

Come on wyt, he says miata wheel so lets give him a miata site.wytbishop wrote:Our stock offset is +45 so your miata wheels will stick a little farther out than stock, and the overall diameter will be 4.5% larger which is quite a bit. it will most likely rub on your struts...for sure under cornering.

I agree 215 is about as big as you could go without rolling the fenders and even then with the miata offset

Re: The "Quick Question" Thread
thanks guys.. after using the calculator, keeping in mind the crappy, crater filled roads here in Ottawa, I'm going with a 205/45-17.
