Re: going rotary?
Well like posted a few times above this is probably not going to happen but research into it could make it possible. I have been looking at the FWD conversions though, it would be a logical conversion start but would still like it to be RWD. I am currently looking into the gauges and electrical. that alone will be interesting. I think the best way is to convert them to individual aftermarket gauges.

Re: going rotary?
yeah that would be the easy part
I was really looking into different swaps for my RX8 before i sold it and got kind of deep into rotary's. I looked into a 4 rotor so much work and money, so a 20B would be the next best thing. They are a lot cheaper at like 2300 to 5500, but at this point most have been sitting around for almost a decade and need rebuilt and that's another 1500 to 2000 on top of it. But still the cheaper better option, especially for 300 HP. There are a couple tricks to loosten up the seals but if it doesent work you have to pull it all apart and rebuild it anyways. I think a RWD 20B MX3 would be a killer set up. There is a Guy on Club Protege who is manufacturing tubular rear ends to bolt into the Escort, they should be a direct bolt-in to the MX

Re: going rotary?
4-rotor RWD Mx-3, wow, dreaming big, eh?
rather than ranting, i'm just going to say i have nothing positive to say and thst the project will never roll out of the garage on its own power, especially not with a 4-rotor

Re: going rotary?
Prove me wrong, I dare ya. I'm not trying to be an a--, just being realistic. If you have to ask about it it's more likely beyond the scope of being realistically feasible for ya, and will take some serious engineering to not making it look like a welded hack job. There's many FWD2RWD and Rear-engine mods out there, and most look like utter crap. A RWD Rotary Mx-3, so make it look like it rolled off the factory floor, will probably be a good 3-5 year project.

Re: going rotary?
Here`s a good little read on a team converting a Mazda3 to a RWD 3-rotor race car:
