Wierd headlight issue! yes ive used the search ;)

Post by mor500589 »

so long story short recently my headlights went out

yet its not the bulbs. its the handle thingy lol

so first click turns on parking lights
second turns on headlights
push forward and the brights stay on.

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT

parks turn on and all but headlights DONT
press the toggle forward for always brights and nothing.
BUT, pull back to flash and they work!!

so i got a piece of paper jammed in there to keep them on and they stay on..

wtf???

relay replaced and still no progress.

Check all your fuses.. If all check out... Replace the head light switch on the column....

To confirm it you could check for a signal to the head light relay from the Light switch with a volt meter...

Sounds like you need a new Head Lite switch. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

If you go to the pic n pull bring a puller for the steering wheel right. I sure Ryan has more than one of these in his supply depot or post in [WTB]

You can also rent a steering wheel puller from most automotive stores. I recommend this, since it's free after you return the puller.

Reallllllly hoping it wasn't the switch. Yet its 325$ after my commercial @ auto zone thus sucks, ill check the leads for voltage first then probably end up wiring the headlights to a toggle switch being 322.99$ cheaper.. ill post when ive checked everything. Thank you.

My apologies lol I was just trying to narrow it down to the switch before actually needing a switch,

I will post in the wtb but while this thread is open

For the record cruise control(or lack thereof) makes zero difference in this instance. I swapped a non cruise control unit in to replace a damaged cruise control one, and it was incredibly simple to swap the cruise wiring onto the new switch.

I had the exact same problem with mine, only my normal headlights worked, but my high beam (push back to leave on) didn't work, but it would flash just fine. I replaced the switch from behind the steering wheel = problem solved. I'm 99% certain you'll need the same part (like Dan & MrMaz have said) :)
Also, $20 is an awesome price! I paid $140 for mine, admittedly I had to get it shipped from Japan because it wasn't the same as the one from a car sold here :(
