Cruise control (aftermarket) rear defrost, underdash wiring

Post by Shelbycobrarx8 »

Alright, here goes..
Last night I literally read through every related post on my issues,
Yay me! I at least managed to get all my turn signals working again as well as fix all the electrical issues with the front bumper which was a wiring fiasco that took nearly 6 hours (I want to kill the previous owner after that one)

So here's my unsolved issues maybe you guys can help me out: I have a 92 1.6 4cyl manual
1: rear defrost
No light, no defrost, no clicking. Nada. Window prongs and lines are all perfectly in tact, So clearly, yes, would be a relay issue, the problem therein lies that whoever messed with the wiring under the dash made quite a mess and cleaned it up with zip ties (yay me for having to suffer from it) and I can't find the relay to save my life, I've looked for the black/yellow yellow blue yellow yellow wires etc, and I'm either looking in the wrong place or they messed them up, could someone possibly pop under their dash and take a pic of where theirs is located so I have a better ballpark? I also found a random wire with a prong hanging, could it be related? Or possibly related to issue number

2: cruise control.
Fairly certain it has to be an aftermarket one installed because it doesn't appear it had one stock. It's a couple inches below where the stock buttons would be but as of now is a useless "arm" hanging from my steering column. What does it do? Absolutely nothing. I'm not sure if this could be a wiring issue or relay or both (as I do t even get a reaction from anything on it) it seems there is no power to it.
Could it be related to the random wire? What would the wiring schematics consist of for putting a a/m cruise in and where all could I check for problems or making sure it was even hooked up correctly?

Yes I have checked and replaced ALL the fuses that could be remotely related to these issues and tried to follow links for pictures in previous posts however it seems all the ones I need don't exist anymore/invalid urls (they were pretty old)

So here are a few images to give you a better idea, anything helps!

FINALLY FOUND THE DEFROST RELAY
And sadly it's in perfect codition.. In fact it looks like it was just replaced Which means dead end on that part I think I've figured out it has to be the button it doesn't catch like the hazard light one does when pushed in at all so I took the whole dash apart to get to it but I can't figure out how to get the buttons and mechanisms out of the casing.. Is there a way to fix it without replacing it??

The wirings all good I checked that too.. I don't have a volt meter on me ATM to check the power but I have a good hunch it's fine.... Ahhh what now??

Fixed the rear defrost! There was a tan panel behind the fuse box that wasn't plugged in all the way and I hooked everything back up to go to advance auto and boom! It works... Wtf. Oh well... I'm happy..
Now for the cruise control next.. I wonder if that might work now too....

The cruise might be a mess. Who knows how the aftermarket controller works, or if it does at all.

Make sure the booster has vacuum, make sure the controller has power (in which pins, who knows, aftermarket sucks like that)

Then if it still doesn't work, trace it back and tear it out.

BTW, is that nail polish on your thumb?

Did that figured out the wiring for it followed it all the Way through to the engine bay, pulled the actuator apart checked the wiring there, the ground wire was on the wrong side of the plastic bracket and the bolt was totally corroded so I know it wasnt grounding properly, fixed that, grabbed the volt meter and both the chassis and red wire for the cc were pulling power which was good also checked the connector inside to make sure where the cruise was plugged in was getting power, that was good, but still no cc. It's a manual which I know requires a clutch control connection for cruise control and I followed the wire up there (red) the cruise is consisting of 4 wire, the other 3 going o the actuator which were red yellow and green (bob marley wiring haha)
The only huge issue I'm having is I'm not sure what fuse would have been incorporated into this mess of amateur schematics, as well as relay. Would the relay match the normal cruise colors? Gah. Looks like I'll be spending another 6 hours on my car today I just wish it was above freezing outside or I had a heated garage.

BTW- yes that is nail polish.
I'm a girl.
I should probably update my profile noW...

From the inline connectors (a horrible idea) I'd think that the installer wouldn't have used any fuses (or tapped into a fused source) and probably didn't do 1 step more than the instructions.

Is there a controller for it somewhere? Does it have a brand name/part number? You could probably find its wiring schematic then.

I had suspicions, but I didn't want to call you on it incase you just had a mishap with paint or something  Props for a woman going through this sort of effort in a car, don't come across lots of them.
