Bought a Eunos Presso... then found out it's rotten

Post by marcdh »

So I bought a Eunos Presso. Listing said 'no rust whatsoever', 'mint', no dents or scratches etc. Picked up the car from a temporary go between friend of mine, then later found out the full truth - already paid for the car via transfer. Still arguing with the seller on ebay.

Original listing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

Here's a taster:
Dear Andrew,

You said "this car has no rust what so ever, never had any welding" -
Video of rust under windscreen and leaking coolant filler neck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cf_mqUrJjs
Photo of welded in patch: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/ ... G_0602.jpg
Photo of welding blobbed to fill hole: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/ ... G_0603.jpg
Photo of footwell rust above patch: http://s49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/ ... G_0604.jpg
Photo of rusted out cowl: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/ ... G_0605.jpg
Photo of fiberglass that should be metal: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/ ... G_1778.jpg

You said "Brembo front brake callipers" - see video removing fake brembro brakes with one finger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=017KJGlWUxs

You said "not a scratch or dent to be seen" - only due to Dan visiting I knew this was not true. You are required to state the truth in any car listing, not to deceive. You did not state in the listing the dents, scratches, mismatched paint.

I took a plane to Exeter from Belfast just to get this car. I drove 900km+ and a ferry to get it home only to find it was rusted out under the windscreen, had welding done underneath to cover a hole in the passenger footwell and more. Can you not see my point of view? I wanted this car to be everything you said it was in the description. I could live with the gearbox being sloppy, the engine rattling, the couple of dents and scratches, the mismatched paint but the rust is just beyond what can be sensibly repaired. I have been to a bodyshop today who have stated the windscreen will need to be removed, old section removed, donor car section of the cowl/scuttle from another car or from Mazda welded in, plate underneath fixed, footwell fixed, rust above roof fixed. I can get a full report on the cost of repair - which alone will cost £40-60.

Sincerely,
Marc
What a disaster! I will never buy without seeing first hand again, I knew this guy was fibbing on some things but he really decieved me. Just doing my best to recoup on parts now. Have since found rust in both footwells that goes through the floor.

So anyway expect some rare parts for sale before too long. Likely sales:
Mazdaspeed struts - 4 way adj - condition unverified yet. Springs seem lower too maybe -30/40mm.
Mazdaspeed cat back - thick mild steel, mandrel bent, had blowout which I've TIGed up and derusted alot of it. Back box in VGC with mazdaspeed emblem on polished tip
JDM lip
Mazdaspeed/Rays eng wheels 16"

Possible sales:
Might sell the full length JDM skirts
Might sell the eunos stainless sills - only 1 or 2 dents.
Eunos rear badge - meant to light up but doesn't appear to right now

Also gearbox appears to have an LSD fitted - both wheels spin same direction in neutral which is interesting.

Please don't PM me with offers etc. This is just a part rant/what are these wheels/what a good car this would have been thread! So what do you guys think of that?

Can anyone identify the model of these wheels?

Im sorry man that sucks.

never wire transfer money.

wheels look legit, they would say mazdaspeed on the back of them, the LSD is a common thing to find in MX6's out of Japan and Europe.

If you do decide to sell anything let me know about the sides :) its not a PM

I would fight to get your money back for sure. contact ebay. you could always swap parts to a good car. sucks the paint on the outside looks so good. really sorry man

I know you probably dont want to but you could always weld in the proper panels, I dont know if you can or not but if you do it yourself or have a buddy who does could be done on the cheep.

Thanks Josh. Yea I've learnt a lot of lessons in this purchase. The seller has had some seriously poor attitude about it all. Just going through the motions with it all, don't think eBay help with non paypal or car sale problems. I expect they'll ban him though for false descriptions and swearing in his messages back to me.

Yea they're definitely rays just can't work out which model! Google images is failing me

Totally gutted it wasn't half the car it was described as. Yep I'll just make the most out of it with the parts from it. Destined for the scrapyard in the sky though... I'm fortunate to have both types of sides now! Need to decide which I like best :)

This just makes me sick. I bought my car sight unseen as well and took a flight and drove it 1200km home. thankfully it worked out well for me but I know exactly the tension you went through making the decision to buy it.

I can't even tell you how angry I'd be.

Thanks guys. Yea Charlie, the description was so confident about the condition using strong terms like "no rust what so ever", "not a scratch or dent to be seen", "mint" that I though if that's even 70% accurate it's worth it.

Ryan, that's fine! Just don't want a dozen PMs as my inbox is always full! Steering wheel will be up for grabs.

Evo_Spec -Yea the parts value is the only thing keeping me from going crazy on this.

SO can anyone name that rim?

Not entirely true. Mazda uses Rays wheels, I found a pic online of a 2nd gen rx7 with the same wheels. Probably a low production model from the early 90's before the MS-01 and MS-02's came out. It could also be possible that it was a couple one offs from them.

I got Work to make me a set of custom color wheels for my 8, so it is possible. they just may not have been in the brochure.

I posted a pic of it on astinagt.net. There's a guy there that will know.

Fake. Those are a Volk AV/GT-AV, so still made by Rays/Volk who make the MS-01 Mazdaspeed rims, but those have just been rebranded by someone to look like the MS-01.

Very little genuine Mazdaspeed stuff actually uses the stylised 'MS' logo, and certainly not on centre caps. Hope that helps! :)
Sorry to burst in on you, wyt.
Marc, my sincere condolences about this incident of yours. On the bright side, it looks like you should be able to recover your losses with all those parts. I myself would be interested in those sides but it looks like some people have already beat me to it. Best of luck.
