pulling codes

Post by Haley »

Hi,
I've been reading about pullling the codes for my 93 mx3 1.8 v6.
I put the paper clip between ground and TEN in the box and turned the ignition to the on position....not starting the car though.
The CEL flashed twice then stopped.
Everything on here says it will display a code #. Mine didn't, it just flashed twice then stopped.
I"m looking for codes because the CEL comes on after about 20km and the car surges once. It drives fine after that but I dont want to risk engine damage so I'm trying to find out whats wrong.
After the car sits for a while and I start it up again, runs fine again for 20 km....then does it again.
I just wasnt sure if the two flashes means code #2, the crankshaft angle sensor or if I"m not doing something right.
This only started a few days ago after I did an oil change and coolant change. Maybe I spilled something on a sensor....??
Thanks for any help. Hope this is enough info.

It displays the number via number of flashes..
slow flash then fast flash
so if you are getting 2 flashes it would be code number 2

Code 2 is a distributor code. Your car will soon start stalling out when its hot, and then not starting at all.... look into the HEI mod, or start looking for a replacement distributor. I have a few laying around, so do other members, so does Ebay, and if you're richer than Satan, so does Mazda.

Ok, so last night I cleared the codes so I could start from scratch and see what it did today. So after about 15km the CEL started flashing twice. I noticed the car didn't have the umph that it usually does. So I took it real easy to get to work.
But I'm confused because the code 2 says crank angle sensor 2 which would be the one thats not in the distributor, but the previous post says distributor. ???
This all started when I changed my oil and coolant and I had the battery disconnected. Makes no sense. I had adjusted my tps a week before but the car still ran fine for that week.
Is this something that could ruin my engine?
