Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
So, I'm trying to get my axle out of the front right side and I'm having some trouble. So you have the part that connects to the transmission and then there is a part that connects from the wheel and the two parts join together right? well the part that connects to the wheel came off but the boot slid right off the part that connects to the axle going to the transmission. I can't get that part disconnected to put in the new CV half axle assembly. I tried a crowbar, hammer etc. Any ideas?
Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
there should be a bracket holding the intermediate shaft .
i think it has three bolts . take those bolts off to disconnect the bracket of the block and pry the shaft of the tranny.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
Yeah... CV's are a b----.
Its a mix of BFH and patience. Just wiggle, pry/pull, rotate, pry/pull, wiggle, pry/pull.... there is a circilp holding it in there, and its finicky. You'll eventually get it, and be like "what did I do different that time?"
On some of the differentials, you can just open up the other side and jam a bar in there and try to punch it out from the back.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
i had the exact same problem when i changed my passenger side cv axle. i took the bracket off and put the axle in a vice and got my 6'8'' buddy to beat on it with the biggest hammer we could find. took about 2 and a half hours literally of constant wacking and it finally came out.

I've also heard of some messed up ratchet strap ideas on PT.

Chisel is a terrible idea. You do not want hardened, sharpened steel anywhere near any gears or aluminum housings.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
This is irritating guys, I've been prying and wiggling and prying and turning. Nothing is happening. I think I just need to do a little bit each day and have my friends take turns on it lol.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
it takes a lot of force. My friend beat on mine for 2 and a half hours or more absolutely non stop with all his strength. We were just about to give up literally if the next few whacks didnt work. try a impact gun with a steel rod in it.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
So should I just take the whole axle out then and do this? And if I take this axle out will it mess up the gears? I have the other axle still in place.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
Yes. Pull it out and put the joint in a vise. Much better than tryin got do this under the car. As long as you don't move the tranny the side gears will be fine.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
Ok I'll do that then, I'll pull it out and work on it with a vice. Am I gonna lose much Tranny fluid at all? Also, is there a trick to taking the whole thing out of the transmission? I know about the support bracket already.

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
the support bracket is the only thing holding it there besides the clip in the transmission. Chances are you will lose some fluid when you pull your axel out but not very much at all. like wytbishop said its a lot better than being under the car where you have next to no room to swing a hammer or something

Re: Help with passenger side CV Axle!!!
drain the tranny before you pull the axel if you haven't already. If you have you will probably still lose a little, but if it's full you will lose a lot.

I used to have a leaf spring dedicated to CV removal. Go to a junk yard and buy a single spring and cut a 1" square from one end and it becomes the best pry bar ever!
