Completely dead!

Post by Pritchett »

So, I went to start my mx-3(ze-shot main bearings)...First off I have a gel-cell battery that I leave on a charger @ 2amps...However my borther dislikes the droning sound it makes and always unpluggs it. Well I thought it would still be good for a quick start anyway...Nope, it wouldn't even turn the engine over, but all the chimes and warning lamps worked. So I grabbed a spare heavy-duty deep cycle marine battery my dad gave me for my truck and hooked it up via booster cables as it didn't fit into the car. It was a little better but still couldn't turn it over. Then I pulled my truck over and hooked the booster cables up. I jumped in and nothing...no door chime, no warning lights...nothing. I briefly checked the cables, they were tight and all the fuses are good from what I can see. I have to go buy a meter to test voltage but that may take a while since i'm always watching 4 children. So if you have any idea's I'd love to hear them!

Your battery cables or starter could be bad...Get a fully charged battery and try jumping from the + batt terminal to the starter. If it works you've found the problem. If not go have your starter tested. Make sure your grounds are good too.
If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable!

Check the main power wire at the starter and make sure there's not a build up of corrosion. you need to pull back the cover to do this.

Um.. just replace the battery.

Marine batterys usually have very low CCA, deep cycle only means it can be recharged from dead succesfully multiple times. Running cables from a vehicle to the leads w/o a battery wont gaurantee a good connection and odds are it wont start. Then go from there.

I didn't read your post well enough. Not sure why you removed the battery in the first place. Leave it in and then try boosting. Does your charger not have a 5amp charge option cuz it should only take 15-20 mins to get enough charge to start with at that rate.

I only took the battery out long enough to see if the other battery would fit. It didn't, so I put the gel-cell back in and tried hooking up the cables between the gel and the deep cycle. It was better but not good enough, however all the lamps still worked. Only when the truck was hooked up did everything die. I would have put my charger on it but it's currently loaned out and it has a 6,4,and 2 amp setting. I charge it with 6 then let it run on 2 as a trickle charger. I'll get the charger back and try to charge it up asap! Thanks for you inputs
