Crankshaft bolt
Crankshaft bolt
So i am finally gong to check on my car and see if the timing belt or timing belt tensioner is damaged but the crankshaft bolt is just so hard to loosen up. Got any tips? And also just want to make sure. Im supposed to turn it counter clockwise right?
Re: Crankshaft bolt
Counter clockwise for off is correct. Use either an impact gun or the starter bump method, look up on
youtube how the starter method works. Or invest in an electric impact gun.

Re: Crankshaft bolt
Old trick I learned fixing tanks in the Army get a big wrench 3/4"(19mm) or larger put the box end over the handle of the ratchet or wrench and voilà its never failed me and I've used it on some pretty big bolts over the years.
If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable!

Re: Crankshaft bolt
That would work if you had the room, and if the flex caused by using the wrench in the wrong axis wasn't more than the space you have to work in.

Re: Crankshaft bolt
Theres plenty of room I easily broke my crank bolt free while changing my wp. And if you have good tools there shouldn't be much flex if you use a 3/4" drive ratchet. Preferably with a six point socket so theres less chance of it breaking.Ryan wrote:That would work if you had the room, and if the flex caused by using the wrench in the wrong axis wasn't more than the space you have to work in.

Re: Crankshaft bolt
Meehh...just do the starter bump method, pretty much never fails....that is unless you have the ratchet set to tighten instead, or if you forget to pul the plugs and the motor catches....just ask my father in law what happens

Re: Crankshaft bolt
thanks all! I tried the starter bump method but would not work at all due to the almost dead battery. and for some reason I locked my car keys inside the car and can't get back in lol! anyways I was able to borrow an impact gun yesterday from a friend's friend and was able to get it off in less than a minute(turning on the air compressor actually took longer). going to continue working on it tomorrow. thanks again!
