I did something dumb a while back--was loading some groceries into the passenger side, in a hurry. I started to drive off and noticed the passenger door wasn't closed all the way (my phone was ringing, distracting me, and basically having a pretty bad day anyway). I reached across the seat and grabbed the roller handle.....and it snapped off. So now there's a sharp broken piece of plastic, and if I want to roll up/down that window, it cuts into your thumb/forefinger. Sucks.
2 questions:
* If I got a used/replacement handle from a scrapyard or seller...does it just slide/snap on? Do I pry off the broken plastic center of the old broken handle that's still on there?
* Periodically when driving down the highway, there's a whistling noise from the passenger window, indicating that it's not 100% rolled up--really annoying. Guess it's gotten loose in there over time. Is it complicated to get in there and do something about that?
Thanks!

Re: Manual window handles
1) manual windows are a b---- to figure out if you haven't done it before. You don't need a special took, just a either really, REALLY narrow set of needle nose pliers or a type of dental hook pic. Just be careful, they're spring loaded. I've had one fly like 20ft and lost it.

2) Can't you just crank it all the way up? Use a set of pliers/vice grips? Probably related to your door handle, or the window/door moulding is going.

Re: Manual window handles
Or.... slip a rag behind the handle and pull it around and the clip will go flying.
Tada.
It's always worked for me. Now, internal retaining clips.. thats a different story...

Re: Manual window handles
I've never had any issues with using a flathead screwdriver to take off the window crank handles. Its rather easy and I've never had the flying clip issue.

Yeah, I keep rolling it all the way up. I guess it slowly just drifts back down.Nd4SpdSe wrote: Can't you just crank it all the way up? Use a set of pliers/vice grips? Probably related to your door handle, or the window/door moulding is going.

Re: Manual window handles
It helps, if when you put the handles back on, you put them so gravity is pulling the handle down when the window is closed.
But it only helps, old, dry molding is probably whats causing your issue, like was mentioned...
