That's a check valve. You do need it.

Definitely need it. Or your VRIS won't work, among other things.

You could probably pick one up at a junkyard, or you could always try a stealership This site: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php is a decent source for MX3 parts, but I can't tell you first hand if their pricing on this item is competitive.

Any auto parts store will have a vacuum check valve. there are better designs out there now than that one anyway....

Yeah, get a generic one. The Stealership will cost a ton and I doubt you can remove one from a junk car without breaking it too. Those things get really brittle with age.
PS- watch out for the vacuum cans next to it when you are fixing it. Don't want to break them or their hose fittings b/c those would be bought from Mazda only, and might only come with a whole new intake manifold.

Hmmm...I had the one in my MX-6 breaking down on me. A 1/8" vacuum fitting and some JB weld solved the problem.

Yeah get a new check valve and you're good but remember which direction to put it on, otherwise you'll be stopping it from working lol
