[FS] Spherical Front LCA bushings

Post by bpt323 »

Please see the FS thread

http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50959

because i personally enjoy these to such an extent, i opted to have 10 sets machined
it's my personal belief that everyone should have a set.

if your hardcore & demand the best of the best~ then these are what you need.
  • Positive caster increase & full floating spherical LCA bushings
  • Shell pieces are 316 stainless steel
  • Bearings are 440c heat treated stainless steel high load bearings
  • Bearing sleeve's are grooved to accept oring's to seal the unit's from any additional road debris
Installed pictures with them in the LCA's are mild steel with 440c heat treated SS bearings- these are now on my FE3 323 & were previously installed in my bpt323 (reason why i took off my SuperPro's®)

These are designed to fit:
Front bearing- all LCA's with 38mm OD (basically everything BG/EC-possibly BH variants(anyone volunteer for measuring??)
Rear bearing- 46mm OD rear bushing cage only (large bracket) late model BG/all EC

feel free to drool like a kid around the christmas tree

Very nice to see that someone has taken the time to make them. Any radial or axial load stats?

Now start making some for the rear suspension arms with spherical bearings!

Ryan,

The rear LCA bushing OD is not the same for all years of EC chassis. The bracket went up in size after 06/94. I don't have the dimensions with me at work, but I suspect the bushings before and after that date are the same as the small and large diameter bushings on the BG chassis. 46mm OD sounds right for the larger diameter after 06/94.

i suppose that could be true, however in my hands on experience i have not seen any mx3 pre 06/94 with the small rear bracket.

in the event you have a small bracket, all you must do is search out larger rear brackets.

True solid mounts eh? Sounds nice no more rubber to wear out but excuse my nubness but do they require any specific silicone grease or the like?

Otherwise what kind of a price are we looking at?

They are PTFE lined so do not "require" lubrication.
However extra grease never hurt anyone. Bearings will be packed with quality high temp disc brake grease. unless otherwise specified.
the bearings are replaceable in the event of wear.

price wise- they aren't cheap. actually quite relevant to other similar pieces/setups.
asking price will be $350 shipped
1 set is spoken for
9 sets are still available to whoever has interest.

From the MX-3 Colliision Guide...http://www.mazdamotorsports.com/pdfs/co ... 296_cg.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Image

Different part numbers...different diameters...I'm just saying. The 90-94' 323/protege guide does not list a separate part number for that part, but the 95-97' does nad it's the samea s the later MX-3 one, so I'm guessing the early one is the same as the early BG one as well. Let's hear it for interchangeability!!!

It sounds like you are taking dibs? Please make sure you have contacted Jeff (mx3.com) on this board before starting this group buy... After that, I would be interested in a set of these. :D

One question about the rear bracket bushings (CIMG5529.JPG and CIMG5530.JPG)... why are they off center?

The offset rear bushings induce positive castor.
--this dramatically improves the front end stability of the car & ride comfort.

The only Downside to this is some increased steering input @ slow speeds- I.E. parking lots/turning out of your driveway.
With the elimination of LCA spring load from poly/rubber bind, steering effort(again low speed only) is increased but remains minimal.

I've run a manual*(de-powered GS rack) for the last several years. With both superpro & my sphericals having positive castor offset.

From OE Rubber/non castor offset POLY-- to my spherical bushings you will notice some additional input for the reasons listed above
Those with PS still equipped are unlikley to notice any additional effort @ all.
Please google "positive caster effects" if your unsatisfied with my answer & read some regarding links.

Lastly, i found no information/rules in regards to "groupbuy's on this forum
if i have missed such a thread please link me
to state-
  • These were produced under both my instruction & my wallet- you are not purchasing from a company
  • I am not collecting any money in advance
  • the purpose of this thread is to find members with serious/enough dedication to want such a product
  • This will become a FS thread -only then will i accept payments
